Brinda’s core commitment this lifetime is to totally, truly, and radically love (herself).

Brinda hails from an untamable and unruly lineage of activists, artists, teachers, healers, and lovers. She is the granddaughter of Gandhian freedom fighters: Baba Pyare Lal Bedi, an acclaimed energy healer, and Freda Bedi, a highly ordained Tibetan nun who served directly under His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, the head of the Kagyu lineage, one of the four principal strands within Tibetan Buddhism.

She is a daughter of one of Midnight’s Children, with ancestors that keep crossing borders and slipping through time. She is an 18th blood descendant of Baba Guru Nanak, the founding guru of the Sikh faith that holds that, above all else, everything is one. Transgression and transcendence abound in her being. Love has brought her here.

A seer and a seeker, Brinda Maira is a commitment to individual sovereignty and collective liberation.

Intuitive and empathic, her intuitive healing session work integrates her own unique and innate gifts with her study, practice, and teaching of biodynamic craniosacral therapy, somatics and sufficiency, Vipassana meditation, and yoga. See below for more detail on Brinda’s training.

Her reach encompasses generational trauma, soul contracts, lineage clearing, and the identification and release of embodied energetic and emotional patterns as they present in the physical pain body. A baker’s dozen years into private practice, she has worked with hundreds of clients — in utero to deathbed — to restore, repair, and heal in order to live this lifetime (and the next) in their truth, gift, and joy.

biodynamic craniosacral

Often called the meditation of bodywork, biodynamic craniosacral is an energy healing modality in which a client's system leads in healing. Unwinding of stress, trauma, injury, and illness patterns are initiated by the system of a client while the practitioner provides a container for this work to occur at depth. What follows is the system's own reorganization for increased vitality, health, and alignment with one's life purpose.

Brinda is a certified registered craniosacral therapist (RCST) and a graduate of a three-year, 714-hour biodynamic craniosacral course taught by Scott Zamurut, RCST at the Santa Fe School of Massage (formerly the Scherer Institute). Scott is a founding board member of the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America and studied under Franklyn Sills, an early pioneer in the development of a biodynamic approach to craniosacral therapy.

Brinda has also done advanced coursework in craniosacral embryology with certified Master Rolfer and international biodynamic craniosacral therapist and trainer Carol Agneessens. She studied pre- and perinatal formation with the Crestone College of Structural Integration with founding teacher Buddy Frank.

somatics + sufficiency

The root of the word somatics is “soma” which is Greek for body.  Somatics is a powerful body-up methodology in which the actions of the physical body are used to rewire our neuro-physiology for maximum choice in our present lives.

Sufficiency is a concept that was first introduced by futurist Buckminster Fuller and later popularized and further developed by Lynne Twist. The sufficiency is a framework contends that there is indeed enough. Enough time, enough food, enough money, enough love. Sufficiency offers a third way beyond the polarities of scarcity and abundance. Brinda trained directly with Lynne Twist and the Soul of Money Institute.

Brinda’s study of somatics includes 25 days of intensive in person training over two years with The Strozzi InstituteSocial Justice Leadershipgenerative somatics, and Leadership Embodiment.  She completed Seven Stones Leadership's 6-month “Enough Already” sufficiency course, and was coached somatically for 6 months and then mentored by Jen Cohen, prinicipal and cofounder of Seven Stones Leadership, for two years.

vipassana meditation

Vipassana meditation was originally taught by the Buddha more that 2,500 years ago as a spiritual path of liberation. Vipassana is a Pali word derived from Sanskrit and is often translated as “insight” or “clear-seeing.” In the wonderful and wise words of renown Western Metta and Insight meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg, Vipassana is “a systematic, integrated path that moves the heart out of isolating contraction into true connection.”

Brinda first learned basic anapana meditation as a child. As an adult, Brinda has been practicing Vipassana meditation since 2005. She began sitting in the S.N. Goenka lineage and and has also practiced intensively in the Insight Meditation tradition. Brinda has sat over 144 days in silent retreat, including month-long, 21-day, and several 10-day and shorter courses. In January of 2012, in Burmese tradition, she ordained temporarily as a Theravadan nun for retreat with the late Sayadaw U Lakhana at Kyaswa Monastery in Sagaing, Burma. Brinda's root teachers are Arinna Weisman and Michele McDonald. She has studied with Ruth Denison, Sharon Salzberg, Roshi Joan Halifax, and Eric Kolvig, among others.

yoga

Yoga is an ancient spiritual discipline and a complete mind-body science that was divined by rishis, or seers, thousands of years ago in India. Brinda has practiced Hatha yoga since she was a child. Being Desi, it was a part of her upbringing and home life.

Brinda is certified by the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association, a member of the national Yoga Alliance. Brinda completed the Kundalini Research Institute's 220-hour Aquarian Teacher teacher training program at Yoga Santa Fe with Kirn Kaur Khalsa and Guruchander Singh Khalsa. She has also completed advanced coursework, including "Stress and Vitality" and "Conscious Communication."

Brinda’s Kundalini spiritual name is Puranprem, which means complete love of the soul. Self-love is her life’s path.
